Sleeve Construction
Moira’s large draping black sleeves are constructed as separate components that attach to the undersuit via snaps just under the shoulder. They are made from a charcoal gray cotton twill for the main outer fabric with a trim of dark silver satin on the cuff to achieve a metallic effect. The inner lining is a viscose rayon twill. A custom pattern was developed for these articles.
There are also two LED rings installed on the cuff that illuminate the circle shapes - these circles are nylon diffusion cloth, hand-stitched into place. The LEDs are sewn-in to the inside of the cuff, on top of a layer of polyethylene foam used as a primary diffuser for an even glow. The wiring is stitched into the inner edge of the cuff, guiding the wires to the base point of the cuff and then up along the lower seam up to the shoulder where they connect to the electrical network. This keeps the wires from impeding the natural flow and movement of the cloth.
Satin is first wrapped around 2 mm EVA foam before being top-stitched to the twill, providing the cuff with structure and a stiff shape.
Four snaps are sewn into the upper edge where the sleeve meets the shoulder. These snaps match the undersuit snaps, affixing them high on the arm.
