Undersuit

The blue undersuit was sewn from a matte milliskin 80% nylon, 20% spandex fabric in a light-blue shade. The base form was a slightly altered stretch bodysuit pattern, cut to just the shirt portion with long sleeves. The sleeves have curved shape at the cuff to create a more sci-fi shape, extending onto the palm and back-of hand per the source design. A large gap cut out in the back allows passage of wires between the reactor and the body.

This base bodysuit is then dyed to a slightly darker shade of blue to emhasize the “spiderweb” applique. To create this applique, long strips of bias tape was cut from the original fabric, then pinned to the base form in a curve and weave to match the source material. This applique spreads throughout the entire undersuit and is left-right mirrored. The bias tape is then top-stitched into place. Lastly, velcro is sewn in to attach various armor parts and snaps are attached just under the shoulder to connect the additional black sleeves.

Collar

The large flared black collar is a separate piece, attaching to the undersuit with velcro under the lip of the undersuit’s collar. The collar has a core of shaped EVA foam that is covered in a contoured cloth piece to create volume. The cloth cover is a charcoal gray cotton twill (same as the large sleeves) with a trim of silver bridal satin. These pieces were carefully hand-stitched together to create a curvature that wraps snugly around the EVA foam without bunching or stretching.
