Greaves Design and Fabrication
The greaves were modeled in Autodesk Fusion 360 and printed with PLA plastic. There are three major parts of the greaves - the main cylinder, the top cylinder, and the skull.
The main cylinder is printed like a vase - with the print lines creating concentric circles. This allows the part to bend open at the back seam without breaking. The walls are designed thin enough to allow for plenty of flex to fit your leg through.
Some additional EVA foam padding is added to prevent the greaves from slipping down and velcro is attached to hold the parts together in addition to some magnets. The skull is glued to the top cylinder.
All parts are finished smooth using XTC-3D and sanded to 1000 grit. They are painted with Alclad Gloss Black base, then Vallejo Metal Color Magnesium, and topped with Alclad Klear Kote Light Sheen.
